Be a Gem, Touch a Life
D'Home's Charity Silent Auction & Dinner
On March 29, a cool Penang island evening, in the posh interiors of the E&O hotel, gathered a great many people with one aim: to do good through art. We were graciously invited by WAF Gallery to participate in this silent auction for charity, organized by the D'home Mental Health Association, whose organising chairman is none other than Mr Lee Khai! Readers of our magazine would be no stranger to this keen art collector and enthusiast. Did I mention lawyer?

What was unique was the casual atmosphere; guests mingled, dined and viewed the 89 pieces on display at their own pace. There was something for everyone: antiques, paintings, photography, jewelry, glass sculpture, embroidery and woodcarvings. As it was a silent auction, bidders bid on paper via their ticket number.
Look at that crowd! All auctioned items were in top condition. Would you believe those brass pieces were almost black before being polished to reveal gleaming gold?
Guess which I had my eye on? I went home with a great artwork by a master oil painter!

A stirring piece by Mr Chee Eng Hong (Sahut, 2009) on the middle left, Beside it is an interesting one by Mr Drew Harris (Through the Looking Glass, 2012), see how it's different, in our Issue 15 feature.
Here are some familiar faces we caught up with. Great to see their support!
From top left, the ever-amiable Mr Lee Khai; here's Datin Ivy Lee and Dato' Dr Tan Chee Khuan; painter Mr Eric Quah; the multitalented Mr Ch'ng Huck Theng; the lovely Ms Tan Ee Lene and myself beside a Pheh It Hao (Ceramic Village, Hanoi, Vietnam, 2006), Pheh's our featured Malaysian Artist Abroad in Issue 18.
To be able to collect valuable art while contributing to a good cause, it's an unbeatable feeling! What a commendable event by D'home! We congratulate their committee and team! Please visit to learn more about their many activities and educational programs.
Can't wait to be back in Penang again!
