A Decade of Collecting Book Launch & Timeless
By Swee Chin PAN

7.30 PM

Just a little over a week after the celebratory lunch at Wei-Ling Gallery (Brickfields) on Monday, 17 September, Wei- Ling is busy with more 10th anniversary celebrations. Tuesday night saw the launching of the gallery’s book, A Decade of Collecting, with a cocktail reception at Wei-Ling Contemporary, The Gardens. As the said 200 page hard cover book is being published with the support of UOB Bank, it was appropriately launched by Mr. Kevin Lam, UOB’s Managing Director & Country Head of Personal Financial Services. Hooray for corporate sponsorships in the arts!

It was a very well attended evening with collectors, artists, friends and family as well as members of the media. It was nice to see media friends whom I don’t normally meet and be introduced to their spouses! So good to catch up over a glass of bubbly!

It was a great opportunity for all present to view the works of Timeless, one of the two exhibitions running concurrently at Wei-Ling’s two galleries. If you did not know, the other exhibition is Bright Young Things (by 10 young Malaysian artists identified as the next generation of emerging contemporary artists to look out for) which was at Wei-Ling Gallery, Brickfields until 21 September and will be here at Wei-Ling Contemporary from 12-31 October 2012. You can however still view the Shutter Mural (where the 20 artists involved in the 2 exhibitions partook in) at the Brickfields’ gallery.

Timeless showcases works by 10 of the gallery's represented artists and they are Anurendra Jegadeva, Ivan Lam, Choy Chun Wei, Yau Bee Ling, Chin Kong Yee, Kim Ng, Zulkifli Yusoff, Hamidi Hadi, Chen Wei Meng and Rajinder Singh. The artists’ task for this exhibition is, to quote from the press release: to question the idea of what makes an artwork timeless and to look at Art that will withstand the test of time, and hence create artworks to reflect this. As we all influenced by our circumstances, culture and traditions as well as the time that we live in, do go and see, in your view, if the artists have succeeded.
And here are Anurendra Jegadeva, Choy Chun Wei, Yau Bee Ling, and Chin Kong Yee with their pieces.
