Kho Choon Lee

Kho (b. 1970) studied at the Kuala Lumpur College of Art (KLCA) from 1989 to 1992 where he graduated with a Diploma in Fine Arts. He primarily uses watercolour as during his time in KLCA, most of the instructors used this particular medium and eventually influenced him to as well.

Before Kho starts painting, he needs to be at the scene; absorbing the sights and sounds, observing the scenery. Then he will start to sketch the subject matter while the colours that he chooses are based on what he feels. He started out painting fishing villages but at that time there were too many fishing village paintings being done, so with the advice from a friend he started to find other subject matters to paint.

Kho is a perfectionist and aesthetic is very important to him, his personal philosophy is that he is unable to accept ugliness. True, art can be subjective but to him it has to feel comfortable for him to accept it.
