If my memory serves me correctly, several years back then, where I could still barely state out a proper sentence; I was already letting my hands to glide freely over the paper with some color pencils. From there, it seems like I was having a tendency to express myself visually rather than verbally. For most of the time, one could probably see a child, with a pencil or color pencil held on his hand; unhesitatingly scribbled on pieces of blank papers. That child would essentially be me during my young age.

I was born in the mid 1980s at the state of Kedah. Kedah (also known by its honorific, Darul Aman, or "Abode of Peace") is a state of Malaysia, located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia. The state covers a total area of over 9,000 km², and it consists of the mainland and Langkawi. The mainland has a relatively flat terrain, which is used to grow rice. Langkawi is an archipelago of islands, most of which are uninhabited. Kedah is considered the “rice bowl” (Jelapang Padi in Malay) of Malaysia, accounting for about half of Malaysian’s total production of rice. In 2008, the state government banned the conversion of paddy fields to housing and industrial lots to protect the rice industry.
Surrounded by paddy fields that spanned most of the flat terrain in Kedah, I enjoyed this magnificent view of lush greeneries. Back then, my childhood was literally set up in a village-paddy field environment. I was raised in a rural area called Simpang Empat. It is located outskirts of the state’s capital, Alor Star. To reach the destination, it requires a 15 to 20 minutes car ride from the city center of Alor Star. Having to set foot in this pristine area where it is freed from any urban influences, I could feel that I am more inclined to nature.
Nature, a force full of life and wonders, makes me captivated by the beauty of its creations. Nature’s creations are all unblemished, balanced and dependent on each other to create a perfectly striking environment surrounding us. Above all of its creations, fishes are the ones which truly mesmerized me. Therefore, with my own vision and creativity, I hope to capture the beauty of these lovely creatures on a canvas. I am hoping also the beauty of these fishes will fascinate the audience.
