Abdul Rashid Abdul Razak

Under the watchful eyes of his father, Abdul Rashid Abdul Razak (b.1951)
honed his artistic skills at a very young age.
His father, an artist who drew posters for cinemas, moved the family from
Butterworth to Kuala Lumpur when Abdul Rashid was 10 years old. Enrolled
in the elite Gurney Road School, Rashid had among his peers some of the
top personalities in the country.
A master oil painter of portraits, Rashid’s stark likeness of his: personalities
in the country, including prime ministers and high profile public figures.
To Rashid, young painters need to have the basic skills and learn from the
masters about ideas, concepts and expertise so as not to be found lacking
in the proper grooming of an artist. Rashid, the president of the Penang
Malay Artists Society, is much respected in the island nation’s art circle.
With accolades galore, Rashid is currently the curator of the society's gallery
at 167, Lebuh Chulia.
