Yusser Ali Al-Qazwini

Yusser Al-Qazwini, a self-taught artist has been drawing since she was a young child. Born in Algeria in 1989 of Iraqi parents. Her father, Ali Al-Qazwini was one of the most acknowledged and wellknown economists in the Arab world. Her mother, Sawsan Ahmad Dhia holds a PhD in Banking and Finance but decided to pursue her dreams of becoming a fashion designer. Yusser grew up in Libya due to her father’s job, and then commenced her college studies at University Putra Malaysia in Malaysia in the field of Computer and Communications Engineering. Despite the death of her father and the emptiness which her father’s death caused in her life, she works hard in all that she does and strives to do her best as a student and inspiring individual. She is now a full-time PhD student in the field of Optical Fiber Sensors; however, she spends most of her weekends and holidays drawing and painting. Yusser is inspired by the culture diversity that she had experienced throughout her life. She is very much connected with her homeland (Baghdad/IRAQ) and Middle Eastern and North African heritage, and she is also in love with Southeast Asian culture which can be seen from her paintings and artworks whether from the colors or the elements. She paints mainly in acrylics on canvas, but also works with soft pastels, colored pencils, graphite and charcoal. Her primary goal is to paint for self-expression and inspiration. Yusser had her first solo exhibition in early 2010. Her paintings have been exhibited in Malaysia and Iraq. She has so far represented Iraq and young Iraqis in various cultural and social events in Malaysia. She has also worked with art community organization and charity in LARONG KALYE Group Exhibition in the Philippines in 2011. She is also popular in her homeland through her artworks and other social activities. Her painting “Istikan Chai” has recently received widespread recognition trough top social networks and e-newspapers and magazines. She has been interviewed by some Iraqi TV channels like Al-Iraqiya and Hona-Baghdad, as “A Young Inspiring Iraqi Artist”.
